Green Ribbon Commission

Cultural Institutions Working Group and Climate Change Public Art Series

The Green Ribbon Commission (GRC) is a non-profit organization that exists to support the City of Boston in their climate action goals. TEA has been working with the GRC since 2020 to manage, mobilize, and create content for their Cultural Institutions Working Group–composed of more than thirty-five of Boston’s most public facing cultural entities, including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Science, the New England Aquarium, and the Boston Red Sox. Working in a consulting role, TEA has been a proud leader in helping museums and other cultural institutions tackle mitigation and resilience efforts as well as talk to their audiences about the existential threat of climate change through creative and unconventional means.

As part of the Green Ribbon Commission’s cultural campaign, Action Pact 2022: Ready, Resilient, Reinvented and in collaboration with partner sites across the city, TEA developed a series of thought provoking, ephemeral art installations to raise public awareness about the impacts of climate change. We commissioned six Boston based artists to imagine climate themed artworks using materials that have no long term environmental impact. The work appeared at cultural organizations located across the city of Boston from April through August 2022. TEA has also organized and run several GRCx interactive virtual program sessions, including Climate Change Past, Present & Future: Perspectives on Time and How We Respond to Our Changing Environment and Inspiration, Empathy & Education: How Cultural Entities Help People Think About Climate in New Ways.
