American Ancestors

Family Heritage Experience

American Ancestors is one of the last and oldest genealogical societies in the United States and, since the late 19th century, has existed as a research library and archive. Approximately five years ago, the organization acquired an adjacent building and engaged Annie and Ed (as Annie Lundsten Museum Services, LLC) to help them develop a Master Interpretive Plan for a set of new public spaces.

TEA is currently working with the organization to help drive the planning, development, and implementation of an extensive set of new public facing experiences. Serving as primary leader and manager of the project, TEA is working to provide a holistic design of the visitor experience in both the old and new building while working in close concert with American Ancestors and the project architects as well as an assembled team of designers, writers, artists, and technical experts. The newly designed spaces, opening in the fall of 2024, will both introduce visitors to the field of genealogy and prompt thinking about their own family histories. TEA has developed a wide range of interactives for visitors, including listening stations, an interactive map, a digital archive exploration, and a large scale ceiling projection on a prominent rotunda.
